I began my career in custodial sales in 1974 after finishing four years in the Navy entertaining thousands of our Naval personnel (the last 2-1/2 years on the Seventh Fleet Flagship, USS Oklahoma City). When we were in port, our unit entertained countless people from South Korea to Singapore. In 1978 I took the Virginia territory with the Spear Lancaster rep group. In 1985 I took a management position with longtime ISSA member, Lawrence Sanitary (now known as Lawrence Environmental Group) in Richmond, VA. In 1996 I took a management position with ISSA member, Unisource (now Veritiv) in Raleigh, NC. I finished my career with ISSA member, Morrisette Paper Company and retired in 2013. At each stop along the way I was able to attend every ISSA convention and many of the seminars. During my career I trained over 6,000 custodians in every aspect of cleaning. With the many years of training people, I was able to transition into an Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer for General Industry and Construction. I continue to teach the OSHA safety classes today. In my spare time I write novels and recently published a book for the cleaning industry titled, A Must-Read Book for People Who Clean for a Living. In the book I cover the advances in chemicals, equipment and tools from 1967 (my first cleaning job) to today. It will give me great pleasure to share my many years of knowledge and give clarification to the topic of disinfection.
