Roger has been an active member of ISSA with many organizations and draws on 35 years of experience as a scientist, innovator, change maker and entrepreneur to inspire organizations to avoid the risks of mediocrity and capture the opportunities of change making. Roger has two daughters and three wonderful grandchildren to keep him focused on the future.

Roger serves pro bono on several non-profit and foundation Boards committed to sustainability, sustainable procurement, green and sustainable chemistry, change chemistry education and safer chemical alternatives. Roger currently sits on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council (SPLC). He is a charter and Advisory Board member of CHANGE CHEMISTRY (Formerly Green Chemistry & Commerce Council and has been an active member of the GC3 Advisory Committee as well as serving pro bono as a strategic advisor to the GC3 Retailer Leadership Council (RLC). Roger served on the Board of Directors of the non-profit Beyond Benign which promotes green chemistry education in higher education and K-12 schools. Roger is Board Emeritus on the Board of Directors of the non-profit Clean Production Action – Creator of GreenScreen, BizNGO and Chemical Footprint Project. Served for four years on the California Green Ribbon Science Panel (2009-1013). Served as the Co-Chair of the 17th Annual ACS Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference. Faculty Member and educator at the Summer School of Green Chemistry at Colorado School of Mines. Served on the Advisory Board for the Chemical Risk and Information System (CRIS) at Oregon Health Science University; And served as Chairman of Oregon Governor’s Community Sustainability Council for Cleaning and Coating Products.

Roger McFadden is currently CEO and Chief Science Officer at McFadden and Associates, LLC. Holding a MS in chemistry, Roger has been a strong advocate for formulating with safer chemistry and an industry supporter of safer chemical cleaning products for more than 30 years. Roger is a well-known science and green chemistry subject matter expert and advisor to retailers, consumer brands, chemical companies, chemical product formulators and product designers.

Roger’s experience includes nine years as Vice President and Senior Scientist at the Global Office Supply Retailer Staples; three years as Chief Science Officer for Corporate Express and twenty years as Director of Product Research and Development for Coastwide Laboratories.

 

Roger believes that we need a revolution in product design with an environmental conscience and commitment to green chemistry, green engineering, and sustainable procurement; the future belongs to companies that integrate sustainable chemistry, engineering, education and sustainable procurement principles to reduce and/or eliminate waste, hazards and risks at all stages of a product life cycle while increasing market share and profitability without sacrificing performance.
